Medical Assistant (RMA)

Program Type: Non-Credit

Description: The Medical Assistant program prepares students for entry-level employment in outpatient and ambulatory care settings such as physician offices, clinics, and specialty practices. The program provides instruction in both administrative and clinical duties, including scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, processing insurance forms, preparing patients for examinations, assisting with minor office procedures, performing basic laboratory tests, and obtaining vital signs. Students learn foundational concepts in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, infection control, and OSHA/HIPAA compliance, as well as professional communication and patient relations. Learning experiences combine classroom instruction with hands-on skills laboratories and a supervised externship in an approved healthcare facility. Upon successful completion of the program, students are prepared to seek national certification as a medical assistant through a recognized credentialing organization, in accordance with employer and industry expectations.
