Patient Care Technician
Program Type: Non-Credit
Description: The Patient Care Technician Course allows candidates to participate in a variety of healthcare settings, ie. hospitals, nursing homes, home health, therapy and physician clinics, etc. Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) are qualified to provide basic nursing care to patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse or physician. With this course, you will learn basic anatomy and physiology, patient care skills, infection control, phlebotomy, EKG monitoring, and compliance, safety and professional responsibility. You will also have the opportunity to complete/earn 4 certifications within the PCT course (Certified Nurse Aide, Phlebotomy certification, EKG technician certification and Patient Care Technician certification).
Prior to beginning the Patient Care Technician course, prerequisite courses of Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, and/or Introduction to Health Science are recommended; these courses are not required but will increase the students’ success with the PCT course and certification exam. The student will then take a Nurse Aide course and complete CPR certification. Phlebotomy and EKG technician courses are also required to complete the PCT course. The preferred pathway of the PCT course is prerequisite(s), nurse aide, CPR, phlebotomy, and EKG technician, with the capstone/final certification being the Patient Care Technician. You will need to obtain packets for each of these courses (nurse aide, phlebotomy, EKG) prior to consideration of our PCT course as there are other requirements within each of the certifications.
